Haunted Train FAQ

Everything to know before you ride

Arrival & tickets

When should I arrive?

Arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Seating is first come, first served. Trains depart on time and cannot be held.

Where is the entrance, and is there parking?

The entrance is at 34600 Ardenwood Blvd., Fremont, CA. Parking is free. Please drive slowly — families with small children will be walking in the lot, especially after dark.

How do I show my tickets?

Show them on your phone at the check-in gate, or bring a printout of your confirmation. We recommend taking a screenshot in advance in case you lose cell service.

Are tickets refundable or exchangeable?

No. All sales are final. Refunds and exchanges are not available except when SPCRR cancels the event due to weather.

What happens if I’m late?

Late arrivals miss the train. No refunds or rescheduling are available. If your group arrives late, we also can’t guarantee you’ll be seated together.

Can I buy tickets in person?

No — tickets must be purchased online in advance.

How many tickets can I buy at once?

Each train seats 86 passengers, so the most you can buy in one order is whatever is still available on that departure — up to 86. Larger groups should book early, or split across two departures.

Can I reserve a whole train car for my group?

Yes. Purchase 30 tickets per car in a single transaction, then email [email protected] for early boarding instructions.

Ride, costumes & safety

How long is the ride?

About 20 minutes.

How scary is it, really?

Spooky, not scary. No jump scares, no loud noises, no gore. Every scene is lit, and the actors and decorations are chosen for children under 12.

Children 6 and under must ride on an adult’s lap — both for safety and so they can see out the windows.

Can I bring food or drinks?

No food or drinks on board, because of the historic train cars. Water and baby formula are fine.

What should I wear?

The cars are open-air, so dress for cool, foggy, or wet weather. A raincoat or poncho is a good idea if rain is forecast.

Can we wear costumes?

Children may wear costumes that stay within the outline of their body — no wings, extensions, or inflatable costumes. For safety, scary costumes, masks on teens and adults, and costume lights are not permitted.

Can I bring a stroller?

Yes, for the queue. Strollers must be parked before boarding.

Weather & cancellations

What if it rains or gets windy?

Trains run in light rain and wind unless conditions become unsafe. If we cancel, ticket holders are emailed the same night and refunded within 48 hours.

Photos & media

Can I take photos or video on the train?

Yes — stay seated and turn off your flash. Please don’t block other passengers’ view. Remain seated for the whole ride unless a staff member tells you otherwise.

Is commercial photography or filming allowed?

Only with prior written permission. Contact [email protected] to request authorization.

Get involved

You sound like a fun group — how do I join?

We are! Email [email protected] to volunteer. We’re always looking for Haunted Train actors, people to build, decorate, and strike the sets each night, gate and line staff, and more.

To join the museum and receive our newsletter, the Narrow Gauge Journal ($20/year), visit spcrr.org and choose SPCRR → Become a Member.

No questions match that search. Try a different word, or email [email protected].

ARRIVE AT LEAST 30 MINUTES EARLY FOR CHECK-IN! This means AT LEAST 30 minutes BEFORE the departure time shown on your ticket. Make sure you allow plenty of time for Bay Area traffic! Last minute traffic incidents might impact your driving time. We suggest that you arrive plenty early and get dinner nearby (there are restaurants just a short distance away).

Your party must arrive 30 minutes BEFORE the listed departure time!

We can't say it enough!

If you do not arrive in time to be seated before your train departs, your party will not be able to ride. No exceptions! Remember to make sure that you arrive to get in the entrance line at least 30 minutes BEFORE your scheduled train departure time (the time shown on your ticket) so that you can show your ticket order to enter the ticket gate.

IMPORTANT— You must be on-board and seated before the train departs. Trains depart on time and they cannot be delayed! If you miss your train, you will not get a train ride. The Haunted Train sells out so there will not be any empty seats on later trains.

Double-check the dates and times of your tickets BEFORE you purchase. Tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE and NO Exchanges, NO Exceptions.

There are no refunds for weather unless the train is cancelled by the Event Organizer. All ticket holders will be notified by email in the event that we have to cancel.
